Built in 1904

In 1904, Colonel John Lant Youngs built the Manor as his personal residence. Not only was Colonel Youngs a master wood carver and contractor, he was also one of Stratford’s Mayors and a decorated officer during World War I. His workmanship is evidenced throughout the home including the quarter-cut oak woodwork and the fine detailing of the fireplaces.

In the 1950’s, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival began drawing crowds to the theatre. The influx of tourists prompted a need for more hotels and places to stay, leading to the conversion of Birmingham Manor from a Victorian heritage home to a beautiful bed and breakfast.

Welcome to Birmingham Manor Bed and Breakfast. We have been operating our B&B since June 2011 in an impeccably restored Victorian heritage home. The experience thus far has been exhilarating and rewarding for us: we love Stratford, the Festival Theatre, the many wonderful restaurants and our new friends. Running the Manor has enabled us to meet wonderful guests from all over the world; the diversity has been astounding.  Together we have explored and shared our passion for food, and we are delighted to prepare breakfast for our guests daily. We strive to make Birmingham Manor a unique destination — Dom & Elena’s place. Both of us come from a long career in private education at Leonardo Da Vinci Academy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto, where dealing with children was a most rewarding endeavour. As much as we love education, the thought of running such a magnificent establishment made the decision to change careers very palatable.

Birmingham Manor Bed and Breakfast is a unique Victorian mansion in Stratford, Ontario’s heritage district. It’s the perfect home to share with our many distinguished guests, and we are honoured to meet and serve every one of you. The hospitality industry has allowed us to immerse ourselves completely in our two greatest passions: enjoying people and enjoying food.

“We were thrilled to acquire this superb heritage mansion in the heart of Shakespeare Festival country. We look forward to providing you, our cherished guests, with many years of the best in service and hospitality.”  Elena & Dom

We love to travel and over the years we have visited Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, cruised through the Panama Canal, zip lined in Costa Rica, toured Iceland (where we saw the Northern Lights), and extensively traveled throughout Italy. During our latest trip to Africa, we visited Cape Town and surrounding areas, went on a camping safari through Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, travelled on the Okavango Delta and through beautiful National Parks, observed the wild life, and even had close encounters with hippos, elephants, and rhinoceros.
